From our Corner | March Musings
A life + studio update.
That’s a wrap on March! As the world begins to wake up and thaw out, I think I will do the same. The final snow piles, clinging stubbornly to street corners, give way to tiny rivulets of water—rivers in miniature, searching for lower ground. The Salmon River has slowly begun to swell as its snowpack upstream melts away. I’m not one to be fooled—winter might still linger—but for now, the sunshine and awakening feels good.
This month in the studio, we busied ourselves with a big launch planned for next month: a limited run of river-themed cribbage boards to kick off the spring season. These boards are an ode to the colors of Idaho’s rivers—deep teal blue, earthy brown with a hint of olive green. With a classic wave pattern, the two-toned leather and wood boards will be a create-your-own item. Our subscribers will be the first to know about these limited heirloom boards, so keep your inboxes open.
Outside the studio, I went on my first-ever backcountry hut trip in the Wallowa Mountains of Oregon. Accompanied by the world’s sweetest gaggle of gal friends, we skinned our way through the mountains—and were rewarded with snow. Buckets of it! Flying down a field of deep powder, it was certainly one for the books. It was a good reminder that new challenges will reward. Check out this a fun video compilation of our adventure.
For this month’s soundtrack, the record player has been spinning with the classic sounds of Prince, Madonna, and Stevie Nicks.
My recommended read: River of the Gods by Candice Millard. While it’s a story about the search for the source of the White Nile, it’s mostly about the drama-filled and downright catty relationship between the lead explorers. Very strange. Very good.
The end of winter has brought a few moments of celebration—a big backyard campfire as our friends try to put a dent in their woodpile and a parking lot tailgate as we “cheers” to the close of a great season at our local ski mountain.
Here’s to the changing of the seasons,
