From our Corner | February Musings

A life + studio update.

Spring may be springing here in Idaho. Or maybe winter still has a few surprises up its sleeve—who’s to say? Until the weather makes up its mind, we’ll keep enjoying ski days up at Lost Trail, mixed in with “property walks” as we slowly introduce our new kittens to the great outdoors.

We’re in the final stretch of updating our studio, and it’s starting to feel just right—like home. Lately, we’ve been dreaming up the idea of hosting leather workshops right here, sharing beginner-friendly skills in a hands-on way. I’d love to hear your thoughts!

  • What leather item would you enjoy making?
  • What leatherworking skill would you like to learn more about?

Leave a comment or hit “reply” with your ideas—I’d thoroughly enjoy your input.

February has been a strange one in so many ways. Full-time river guiding means a jam-packed schedule from spring through fall, but winter brings a slower rhythm. Right now, that quiet seems to amplify the unrest and uncertainty echoing across the country. I’m finding solace in what I can control: staying involved and informed on political happenings through a small group of local friends, hanging out with my two orange tabbies, and hand-stitching cribbage boards while listening to Death, Sex & Money.

This month, we decided on the organization we’ll be supporting in 2025. A portion of all profits will go to Clifton Cultural Arts Center, an Ohio-based nonprofit dedicated to making art accessible to all. This year’s choice is deeply personal—it’s in honor and memory of my older sister, Becca (Mallory) Vickery, who I lost to cancer in March 2024. Her life was filled with art, and her influence on Kinshop runs deep. You can read more about her and her impact in our latest blog post.

The studio has been filled with the sounds of Yin Yin—a blend of disco, funk, and Southeast Asian music. Highly recommend giving them a listen.

My favorite read this month? Dwell magazine. I’m fully embracing magazine subscription life—got any recommendations?

February has felt, dare I say... uninspired. And that’s okay.

Remembering that every day is part of the journey,
Sarah + Kinshop
